Scholé: An Ancient Greek word meaning leisure—but not in the sense of relaxation. To be at leisure (to have scholé) is to be free from the anxieties of this world in order to be free to search for that which is true, good, and beautiful.

Scholé House serves Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). It is committed to exploring how historic Christian faith can enrich and be enriched by careful reflection upon and thoughtful discussion about goodness, truth, and beauty. Psalm 46:10 says, “Be still and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” Our vision is for Scholé House to embody this verse, to be a place where busy lives can be graciously interrupted with opportunities to explore a Christian vision of human flourishing for the sake of knowing and being known by the One who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
